Official judge for The Great Geo Bake-Off 2016

Unsurprisingly, I'm a big fan of the Great British Bake Off, so when Sarah at The Geological Society invited me to judge this year's geology themed baking competition I jumped at the chance to channel my inner Mary Berry!

It was even more enjoyable than I'd imagined and there were some truly incredible cakes and bakes across all the categories.  This year the overall theme was water and the set challenges ranged from the relatively simple 'lagoon cakes' & 'ripple effects', to the slightly more tricky 'fingal's cave' and the ridiculously hard 'Mosasaur from Jurassic Park'! One of the best challenges was to recreate the Iron Islands from Game Of Thrones and Hannah's cake was one of my favourites.

Hannah's entry made from marble cake, chocolate buttercream & fondant icing.

The best 4 bakes each won a personalised gingerbread medal and they were very much deserved.  Thanks to The Geological Society and all the bakers who entered for making this such a fun job!
