Book Launch: Mussolini's Island by Sarah Day

Having worked with Sarah on last year's Geo Bake-Off, I was delighted when she asked me to make a cake for the launch of her debut novel, Mussolini's Island.  The book is based on a true story where, in 1939, 45 gay men from Sicily were labelled "degenerates" and exiled to the island of San Domino. It was chosen as The Times' Historical Fiction Book of the Month, and is receiving fantastic reviews.

I created a 3D sculpted cake of chocolate sponge layered with dark chocolate ganache, with vanilla buttercream and piped details to represent the island featured on the cover.

The launch, held at The Geological Society, was a huge success and it was great to be involved.  Mussolini's Island is available now in hardback and is published by Tinder Press.
